Bienvenue dans un lieu alimenté par Enercoop, coopérative d’électricité vraiment verte, locale et citoyenne

Choosing the energy company in France wasn’t an easy choice. There are 30 companies to choose from. Since 2007 the situation changed. Before 2007, everybody was a client of EDF and when we moved to France 4 years ago the contract to take over was EDF. Today still 80% of the households are buying electricity from Électricité de France, in 2009 the world’s largest producer of electricity. All nuclear power reactors (17) are operated by EDF.

Having been a participant in Belgium in Ecopower, supplier of green electricity in Eeklo, delivered from a wind turbine next to our home, we wanted to choose a real alternative company here in France too. The choice isn’t that large really. Only 3 companies offer real green (from renewable sources) power and not the ‘greenwashed’ version with Green Certificates.

There’s this study from Greenpeace France where it is shown that some companies just buy electricity produced with coal and wash it green with certificates …
